接不接电话

我今天给你打了三次电话，你一次都没接，为什么？

I called you three times today and you didn't answer once. Why?

对不起，电话响的时候我正在开会，没办法接，所以我给你回复了短信。

Sorry, my phone rang while I was in a meeting, so I couldn't answer, and I texted you back instead.

可是短信不是电话，我不知道你什么时候能看到，也不知道你是不是真的明白我要说的事。

But a text isn't a phone call. I don't know when you'll see it, or whether you really understand what I need to say.

你要说的事很紧急吗？如果真的紧急，我看到短信会马上回复，为什么一定要现在接电话？

Is what you need to say urgent? If it's really urgent, I'll reply the moment I see the text. Why does it have to be a call right now?

因为电话响了，就是有人需要你，你不接，别人会觉得你不尊重他。

Because when the phone rings, someone needs you. If you don't answer, people will feel you don't respect them.

我不是不尊重你，只是我觉得，电话响的时候接不接，应该是我自己的选择，不应该是别人决定的。

I'm not disrespecting you. I just think whether to answer when the phone rings should be my own choice, not something someone else decides.

那如果我正在路上，突然想到一件重要的事，只能打电话告诉你，你也不接吗？

What if I'm on the road and suddenly think of something important, and calling is the only way to tell you right then? Would you still not answer?

那种时候我当然会接。但是很多时候，你打电话只是想聊聊天，没有什么紧急的事，我在忙的时候，突然响的电话真的很打扰我。

Of course I'd answer then. But a lot of the time you call just to chat, nothing urgent at all, and when I'm busy, a phone suddenly ringing really bothers me.

我给你打电话，是因为我想快点告诉你，也想听听你的声音，知道你现在怎么样。短信没有声音，我觉得不够。

I call you because I want to tell you quickly, and because I want to hear your voice and know how you're doing right now. A text has no voice in it. I don't think that's enough.

我明白，你打电话是因为关心我。可是发短信，我可以想清楚了再回复，不会说错话，你打电话，我常常还没想好就要马上回答。

I understand, you call because you care about me. But when I text, I can think it through before I reply, so I don't say the wrong thing. When you call, I often have to answer before I've even thought it through.

你说得也有道理。可是我这个人，习惯了打电话，看不到你，听不到你的声音，我就是不放心。

You have a point there too. But I'm used to calling. If I can't see you and can't hear your voice, I just don't feel at ease.

那你以后可以先发一条短信，问我方不方便接电话，我们都不用担心了。
