越…越…: the more…the more
Structure: 越 + Condition/VP + 越 + Result/VP
Expresses a proportional relationship: as one thing increases, another increases too.
- 越跑越快 (the more you run, the faster you get)
- 越学越有意思 (the more you study, the more interesting it becomes)
- 越说越生气 (the more they talk, the angrier they get)
Key points:
- Both VPs share the same subject (or implied subject).
- No 了 or 过 inside the pattern.
- ❌ 越跑越快了 (wrong — 了 breaks the frame)
Distinguish from 越来越: 越来越 + single adj = getting more and more (one adjective gradually increasing). 越…越 = two linked changes.
