Conditional & Purpose Clauses: 要是…就, 为了…

Conditional and purpose clauses state a condition and its result, or an aim and the action taken for it. At HSK 3 this point covers 要是…就 (if, then) and 为了 (in order to), where 为了 opens the clause that gives the goal.

要是 yào shi (coll.) if 就 jiù (after a suppositional clause) in that case… 为了 wèi le

Compare: 如果 and 要是 are interchangeable in most cases; 要是 is more colloquial.

Structure: 为了 + Goal + Subject + Verb OR Subject + 为了 + Goal + Verb
✅ 为了健康,她每天跑步。(In order to be healthy, she runs every day.)
✅ 她为了学好汉语,每天练习两个小时。(She practices two hours daily in order to learn Chinese well.)

Contrast: 因为 explains reason (past/present fact); 为了 states purpose (future goal).

Not: 要是下雨,所以我们不去。 要是 gives a condition and the result uses 就, not 所以.

为了 (wèi le)

Introduces the goal of an action, in order to.

Not: 为了下雨,我们没去公园。 为了 names a goal; rain is a reason, so use 因为.

Often yes, but 就 makes the result clear. 要是下雨,我不去 is possible, and 要是下雨,我就不去 sounds more complete.
