是我的第一本。开始的时候真的很难，几乎每个词语我都要查字典。
It's my first. At the start it was really hard, I had to look up almost every word in the dictionary.
那一定很累。你查了多长时间才习惯？
That must have been exhausting. How long did you have to look things up before you got used to it?
前面差不多要查很久，那个时候还不习惯用汉语想问题，看得很慢，也没有意思。
For a long stretch at the beginning I was looking things up constantly. I wasn't used to thinking in Chinese yet, so it was slow and no fun at all.
那你还是每个词语都查吗？
So do you still look up every word?
不是。然后我发现，有些词语我不知道意思，但是故事我还是看得懂，这些词语我就不查了。
No. Then I noticed that for some words, even if I didn't know the meaning, I could still understand the story. So I stopped looking those up.
你怎么知道什么时候可以不查？这个不容易吧。
How did you know when it was okay to stop looking things up? That doesn't sound easy.
如果一个词语出现很多次，但是我不知道它的意思，也不影响我看故事，我就不查了。
If a word kept showing up a lot, and I still didn't know its meaning, but it wasn't affecting my understanding of the story, then I stopped looking it up.
有意思。那你什么时候开始觉得，看小说不难了？
Interesting. So when did you start feeling like reading the novel wasn't hard anymore?
我也不知道。我没注意到那个时候。我只是有一天发现，我在看故事，不是在翻译。
I don't know either. I didn't notice that moment happening. I just noticed, one day, that I was reading the story, not translating it.
翻译？什么意思？
Translating? What do you mean?
以前我看一个字，就要先翻译，然后再想是什么意思，很慢。然后，我看的时候，就是看，不用翻译了。
Before, when I saw a character, I had to translate it first, and only then think about what it meant. That was slow. Then, at some point, when I read, I was just reading. I didn't need to translate anymore.
这是很大的进步啊！
That's real progress!
是进步。但是我没都看懂。还有很多地方我不懂。
It is progress. But I didn't understand all of it. There are still a lot of places I don't understand.
那你觉得看不懂也可以吗？
So you think it's fine to not fully understand it?
可以。看完一本不太懂的小说，比不看完一本都懂的小说好。
It's fine. Finishing a novel you don't fully understand is better than not finishing a novel you understand completely.
为什么？
Why?
因为我看完了。现在我习惯看汉语小说了，进步也越来越快。
Because I finished it. Now I'm used to reading Chinese novels, and I'm improving faster and faster.
