Multi-Layer Compound Sentences

A multi-layer compound sentence (多重复句) contains TWO OR MORE logical relations stacked inside one sentence — a compound clause nested inside one half of another compound clause.

How to read one: First locate the OUTERMOST connective pair (it usually spans the widest scope, often at the very start and after the first comma-break). Everything inside one of its two halves may then contain its OWN inner connective pair — a second (or third) layer.

Example: 虽然他很忙，但是只要有时间，他就会来看我们。
- Layer 1 (outer): 虽然…但是… (concession) — spans the whole sentence.
- Layer 2 (inner): 只要…就… (condition) — nested entirely inside the 但是-clause.

Common combos: concession+condition, cause+alternative, progression+concession. Producing natural multi-layer sentences (not run-ons) is a hallmark of advanced written Chinese.

虽然公司经营困难，但是员工们不但没有抱怨，反而团结一致，一旦遇到问题，就主动想办法解决。	Suī rán gōng sī jīng yíng kùn nán, dàn shì yuán gōng men bú dàn méi yǒu bào yuàn, fǎn ér tuán jié yí zhì, yí dàn yù dào wèn tí, jiù zhǔ dòng xiǎng bàn fǎ jiě jué.
