Alternative, Conditional and Concessive Compound Sentences
These compound sentences give a choice, a condition or a concession. 要么…要么… (either…or) offers two exclusive options, 一旦…就… (once) and 除非…才… (only if) set conditions, and 即使…也… (even if) concedes a point.

These patterns express choice, condition and concession. 要么…要么… offers two mutually exclusive options. 一旦…就… marks a trigger point: once X happens, Y follows.
除非…才… says X is the only condition under which Y happens. 即使…也… concedes an extreme or hypothetical case, and the result still holds; it pairs with 也, not 但是. 即使 is for hypothetical cases, while 虽然…但是… concedes a fact that is already true.
一旦…就… (conditional threshold): 'once X happens, then Y (follows)' — marks a trigger point, often for sudden or significant change: 一旦发现问题，就应该处理。
除非…才… (necessary condition): 'only if X, then Y' — X is the ONLY condition under which Y holds; without X, Y never happens: 除非你解释，他才会相信 (only if you explain will he believe it).
即使…也… (concessive-hypothetical): 'even if X (real or hypothetical, often extreme), still Y' — pairs with 也, NOT 但是. Contrast with 虽然…但是… which concedes a fact already known to be true; 即使…也… works for hypothetical or emphasized-extreme scenarios and always pairs with 也.

一旦…就… (yí dàn…jiù)
Says that when something happens, a result follows; usually a hypothetical or future trigger.
Structure: 一旦 + condition, 就 + result

Not: 一旦我昨天到家，就给你打电话。 一旦 is for a hypothetical or future trigger, not for something already past.

除非…才… (chú fēi…cái)
Names the only condition under which the result can happen.
Structure: 除非 + condition, 才 + result
