GraphChinese vs LingoDeer for learning Chinese
LingoDeer is a well-built grammar app; GraphChinese is a course with a defined finish line. LingoDeer teaches through short lessons with explanations and native-speaker audio. It does not publish an HSK mapping or a stated ceiling for its Chinese course, so you cannot tell from its pages where it ends.
GraphChinese starts at zero, orders all {TOPICS} topics by what depends on what, holds each one until its prerequisites are proven, and ends at HSK 6. One lifetime price, no subscription.

LingoDeer is a subscription language app that covers Chinese alongside Japanese, Korean and other languages. Its pitch is grammar: curricula written by teachers, explanations of how the language is built, native-speaker audio rather than text-to-speech, and built-in flashcards for review.
That is a sensible design, and it is the part of the comparison where LingoDeer is strongest.

What LingoDeer does well
- Grammar is explained rather than left for you to infer, and the lessons are written by teachers.
- Audio is recorded by native speakers, which matters for tones.
- One subscription covers every language in the app, which is good value if Chinese is one of several you study.
- Its yearly price is low for a polished app, and a multi-year prepay lowers it further.
Where it does not help
- You cannot see the ceiling. LingoDeer's pricing and home pages do not say which level its Chinese course reaches or how it maps to HSK. If you are studying for an exam, that is the first thing you need to know.
- A fixed path is not a mastery gate. You move on when you finish a lesson. In GraphChinese you move on when the topics underneath are proven, and reviews return the ones you are losing.
- Subscription pricing never ends. $95.99 a year is modest, and it is also due every year for as long as you study. The 6-year prepay is one payment, but it is still a term and not a lifetime.
- Many languages means Chinese is one course among them. GraphChinese is built around Mandarin only: characters, tones and HSK are the whole product.
A path versus a graph
Most apps give you a sequence and mark it complete. That works until you forget something from lesson 12 and nothing notices, because lesson 40 does not depend on it in the app's model.
A knowledge graph makes the dependency explicit: every one of the 829 topics lists what must be solid before it opens, and the scheduler brings back the ones that are decaying before they block what is ahead.
The result is the same destination at a different pace per learner. You spend time where the graph says you are weak and skip nothing that a later topic needs, from the four tones through HSK 6 grammar.
Which one should you use
Use GraphChinese if Chinese is the goal. That includes absolute beginners: the first lesson assumes no Chinese at all and is free without an account, and the same course continues to HSK 6 without a change of product.
If you already pay for LingoDeer for other languages, nothing stops you using it alongside. For Chinese specifically, the graph, the writing and the scheduler are the parts it does not list.
Is LingoDeer or GraphChinese better for learning Chinese?
LingoDeer is a grammar-led app for several languages and does not state a Chinese level ceiling or an HSK mapping on its pricing and home pages. GraphChinese is a Chinese-only course from HSK 0 to HSK 6 built on a dependency graph of 829 topics with mastery gating, stroke-order writing, 102 narrated readings and an FSRS scheduler. If Mandarin is the goal, the course with a defined finish is the better fit.
Does LingoDeer have a lifetime plan?
Its pricing page, checked October 2026, lists monthly ($14.99), yearly ($95.99) and a 6-year prepay ($239.99, marked as a limited offer). It lists no lifetime plan. GraphChinese is $49 once for lifetime access.
Does LingoDeer prepare you for the HSK?
Its pricing and home pages do not mention HSK or a Chinese level ceiling, so we cannot say. GraphChinese maps every topic to an HSK level and runs from HSK 0 to HSK 6.
Can a beginner start Chinese with GraphChinese instead?
Yes. The first lesson, the four tones and the first characters, assumes no prior Chinese, and the same course continues through HSK 6.
See the whole path instead of reading about it. Your first lesson, the four tones and tracing 你 and 好 in correct stroke order, is free on the landing page, no signup. The whole course, HSK 0 through HSK 6, is $49 once for lifetime access.
