Pleco is the best Chinese dictionary on any platform, and nearly every serious learner has it installed. This page will not pretend otherwise. But Pleco and GraphChinese are not really competing for the same job: Pleco answers a word you already ran into, and GraphChinese decides which word you should run into next. Most people who are serious about Chinese end up with both.

What Pleco does well

The most complete Chinese-English dictionary on mobile, with instant lookup and a huge, well-maintained headword list.

Handwriting recognition input, for the character you can read but cannot type.
A document reader that glosses pasted or imported Chinese text word by word, offline.

Where it runs out: it is a reference, not a curriculum

It answers, it does not assign. Pleco tells you what a word means the moment you look it up. It has no opinion about which word you should be looking up today, or whether you are ready for it.
No dependency structure. Nothing in Pleco checks whether a word you just searched leans on grammar or characters you have not met yet.
No mastery tracking. Looking a word up is not the same as knowing it. Pleco has flashcard add-ons, but nothing that gates what comes next on proven mastery of what came before.
It does not teach stroke-order writing or speaking. It is built for lookup and reading, not for producing the language yourself.

The core difference: reference tool versus course

Which one should you use

Keep Pleco. Nothing here is an argument against it, and if you already own it there is no reason to stop. It is the fastest way to answer "what does that word mean" anywhere you are, online or off.

Is Pleco enough to learn Chinese by itself?

No, and Pleco itself does not claim to be. It is a dictionary and reading tool: you look up a word, tap through to its example sentences, or paste in text and get every word glossed. What it does not do is decide what you should learn today, in what order, or whether you have actually mastered what you looked up yesterday. Pleco answers questions you already have. A course has to also raise the right questions in the right order.
